Creases & Folds: MA Exhibition
An Artist Statement from My MA Exhibition:
I work with a sense of irreverence, breaking painting traditions. My paintings are built up in layers allowing viewers to see the process used to create each piece. Individual brushstrokes may be seen. The energy I use leaving marks on the canvas can be easily imagined. The audience is therefore allowed a glimpse into my thought processes. Each painting expresses the state of mind, or aura, which I am in when working. Street art influences can be seen in my use of spray paint and stencils. Using spray paint, I create fields of color to which I respond with oil painted figures and lines. My responses are affected by popular culture as well as my personal interests. As a result, some viewers may find my paintings comical or quirky.
